Frequently Asked Questions

1
Have I Left It Too Late?
Emotions do not come with an expiry date, and so it is never too late to have a debrief.
Debriefs are held in your own home, at a time that is convenient for you. I do however recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks after birth before booking in a debrief, to give yourself the opportunity to start to recover, rest, and begin to process events.
2
Doesn't The Hospital
Offer This?
The maternity service does offer labour debriefs.
Birth Reflections Jersey exists as an additional resource for women who:
-
Want a different approach to their debrief
-
Do not want a hospital debrief
-
Want to have a debrief sooner
-
Want their debrief outside of business hours (i.e. during evenings/weekends),
-
And/or had a hospital debrief and now want additional debrief support or a different approach.
3
Do I Need My Notes?
No, it is not necessary to have your hospital notes. However, if you wish to include them in your debrief, this is absolutely fine.
If you do not have a copy of your notes, see the Hospital Services page for details on how to request this. As Birth Reflections Jersey is a private company, I cannot access your notes any other way as this would be a data protection breech.

4
You Were At My Birth, Can I Still Book With You?
All midwives will attend births during their careers that do not go as the parents had hoped it would, whether it is an unplanned caesarean or an emergency like heavy blood loss. I hope that I was able to be the support you needed as you navigated your birth experience.
I believe debriefs work best when they are as impartial as is possible, and so for that reason I would not recommend booking with me if I was present at your birth. These sessions are about your truth, not mine, and I would hate to unintentionally take anything away from your story or have you feel there is any conflict of interest.
5
Can You Provide Pregnancy Care For Me Too?
Birth Reflections Jersey is not an independent midwife service, but instead a complementary therapy.
My job is to ensure you understand your options, have the answers you need, and feel empowered to advocate for yourself and your baby. The maternity service are there to support you 24/7 for your clinical care needs.
