Frequently Asked Questions

1

Have I Left It Too Late?

Emotions do not come with an expiry date, and so it is never too late to have a debrief.

Debriefs are held in your own home, at a time that is convenient for you. I do however recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks after birth before booking in a debrief, to give yourself the opportunity to start to recover, rest, and begin to process events.

2

Doesn't The Hospital
Offer This?

The maternity service does offer labour debriefs.

Birth Reflections Jersey exists as an alternative for people who:

  • Want a different approach to their debrief

  • Want an impartial outsider with insider knowledge to lead their debrief

  • Wants to debrief something other than their birth, e.g. breastfeeding

  • Do not want debrief in the hospital environment with a time limit

  • Do not want to be on a waitlist

  • Want their debrief outside of business hours (i.e. during evenings/weekends),

  • And/or had a hospital debrief and now want additional debrief support or a different approach.

3

Do I Need My Notes?

No, it is not necessary to have your hospital notes. However, if you wish to include them in your debrief, this is absolutely fine.

If you do not have a copy of your notes, you can request them online. As Birth Reflections Jersey is a private company, I cannot access your notes any other way as this would be a data protection breach.

4

You Were At My Birth, Can I Still Book With You?

Usually, I would not recommend this. It I believe that a debrief should be as impartial as possible, to ensure that the focus is on your experience, feelings, and understanding of what happened.

5

Can You Provide Pregnancy Care For Me Too?

Birth Reflections Jersey is not an independent midwife service, but instead a complementary therapy.

My job is to ensure you understand your options, have the answers you need, and feel empowered to advocate for yourself and your baby. The maternity service are there to support you 24/7 for your clinical care needs.
