Maternity Services
Subject Access Request
A debrief with Birth Reflections prioritises your personal birth story and how you remember it. You do not need your hospital notes for this to take place.
However, if for any reason you wish to have a copy of your notes, fill in a Subject Access Request via the form on this Gov.Je page requesting your pregnancy, birth, postnatal and/or neonatal notes. Requests may take between 4-12 weeks.
Maternity Midwife/PMA
Birth preferences and other support discussions are offered free of charge by the community midwives. PMAs employed by maternity can also offer support if you require it. If you are pregnant, contact your community midwife by the number on the front of your green notes who can arrange support. If you are at another stage of your journey, contact antenatal clinic on 01534 442495 and ask to be referred to one of the PMAs
Maternity Debrief
Birth debriefs are offered by the maternity service. This usually consists of going over your labour notes with an aim to help you understand what happened, why you were offered any interventions, to ask questions about your birth, and to give feedback to the service about your care and your experience. This most commonly takes place in the antenatal clinic, and sessions usually last 1 hour.
If you are still seeing your midwife for postnatal home care, they can refer you for a debrief. If you have had your baby already, you can be referred by your Health Visitor or GP, or can contact antenatal clinic on 01534 442495 and ask to be referred for a debrief with the PMA team.
There is usually a waitlist, and you can ask for an update on how long the wait is when referred.
Many women find a hospital birth debrief to be helpful. Birth Reflections Jersey exists as an additional resource for women who do not want a hospital debrief, want a different approach to their debrief, do not want to be on a waitlist for their debrief, want their debrief outside of business hours (i.e. during evenings/weekends), and/or had a hospital debrief and now want additional debrief support or a different approach.
Baby Steps
An excellent free resource for expectant parents to learn about pregnancy, birth, caring for a newborn, emotional changes, and much more. Run by FNHC with a team of health visitors and midwives, Baby Steps is a great antenatal education course to help you gain a solid foundation of knowledge. Speak to your community midwife or see their contact details on this Gov.Je page.
